Dr. Vanden Hoek was born in Vietnam, her father a physician with the Vietnamese Special Forces.
Her family subsequently moved to Chicago, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree with honors in Biology from Loyola University. After graduating from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, she completed a pediatric residency at the University of Chicago Children’s Hospital in 1990.
She moved to Hampton Roads in 1991 with her husband, an ER doctor, who served as the Director of Langley AFB Hospital’s Emergency Department during Desert Storm. She founded Pediatric Consultants with partner Rosa Fuste in 2000.
Dr. Vanden Hoek as been happily married for over 35 years, has two sons who are both healthcare providers, and loves traveling and spending time with family.
